What is NordVPN’s NordPass?

NordVPN recently launched a secure password manager known as NordPass. It’s launch is a result of series of tests that were performed prior to launching the tool publicly.

By now, NordPass is available for various web and mobile platforms such as Anroid, iOS, Chrome Opera, MS Edge and Firefox web browsers. However, to use it on a web browser, you need another app ‘NordPass Background App’ which is required on desktop systems. Before you are able to use NordPass’s browser extension, you need to enable and run the NordPass Background App.

You can use the free version of the app however it is available for a single device at a time. If you want to access your passwords on multiple devices, you have to go for their premium plan which starts at $2.49 per month for their 2 years plan. Other plans include 1 month priced at $4.99/month and 1 year plan costing $2.99 for a month.

To keep its enhanced level of security, NordVPN ensures that whole process of encryption and decryption takes place on the device which the app is installed on.

Nordpass makes use of XChaCha20 encryption with Argon2 and zero knowledge encryption. Once the data packets leave the system, they are ensured to be encrypted

While setting up the app, first you need to provide with your email address, verifying it and then enter a master password. At this time, access to NordPass is available to premium users only. If a user forgets his master password, he would be provided with a recovery code.

There are options to import passwords from different browsers and other password managers such as PassPack or LastPass. You can easily import your passwords data from Chrome, Firefox, Opera browsers. Users are also able to upload passwords from a CSV file.

For a more robust security, users can enable the two-factor authentication. As being a password manager, security of subscribers’ data becomes more crucial. That’s why it is highly recommended to enable the two-factor authentication.

ExpressVPN is great at unblocking Netflix and other streaming channels. It is also considered as a safe choice for performing torrenting, gaming, and security related aspects.

Some of the most amazing features from the service are Network Lock, zero-knowledge DNS, split tunneling and the list continues.

The service states to keep zero user logs which is another reason to choose this service.

NordVPN or ExpressVPN: What’s my take?

After performing this analysis, what I conclude is both of these VPN services are almost equal. They come very balanced when we compare them head to head. However, I would go for NordVPN as it costs ways cheaper than ExpressVPN. Otherwise both providers stand equal in my opinion.
